Dx0 pure raw5/7/2023 Go to Photoshop and you get full blown high horsepower editing capability.įor RAW conversion to send to another one of these programs for further development, and basic color and exposure modification DPP is just fine, if a little slow. Lightroom, Capture One, etc have similar feature sets to DXO, all of which are a little better than, or non existent in DPP. I don't think DPP is doing that, though I haven't looked recently. DXO also has better noise reduction capability, a smarter AI for things like 'automatic' clarity adjustments, and offers masking and other local adjustments. The lens profiles they do have are generally considered to be top notch as well. I don't know how to measure the difference in performance, but its there. Where DPP is a lens profile alone, I believe. there is a profile for the 24-105L on the 5DIII, and a separate profile for the 24-105L on the 5DIV). I should note, I haven't noticed a difference, but some people believe that the camera/lens correction profiles in other programs (like Dxo) might be a bit better, so there is that.ĭXO offers profiles for lenses specific to bodies (e.g. That seems to support what you're saying: if you don't mind the speed, there's no reason to move away from DPP. Here's the kicker: I've never seen anyone complain about having to go back later and reprocess their raw conversations because of any marginal advantage in another program. ![]() Pretty much universally the advice is to just add DPP to one's work flow for the lens corrections, and I've seen many people comment that this is the only time they use DPP. One data point that supports this: often when a new Canon lens or body is released, there can be a long wait for lens profiles to become available to Adobe or capture one, but they're almost immediately available for DPP. Almost all of the criticism I've seen of DPP is with the clunkiness/speed. ![]() I'll let others more advanced than I comment, but I think you're right. Am I missing anything - other than faster speed of processing - by sticking with DPP for the raw conversion aspect of my workflow? I have tried many raw converters over the years and, as a canon-only shooter, have not found anything that bests DPP in terms of the quality of the raw conversion of canon files. ![]() I have found this thread very interesting - with informative comments from forum members who are clearly on top of this stuff.
